PCB redesign

Electronic System Design

As a result of the troubleshooting stage, we start implementing the fixes we have learned through the troubleshooting process. As an example, if we need to add a common mode filter and X and Y capacitors, we will do so in the final design if it is necessary. There is a tendency for us to add a higher level of filtering to the system once the troubleshooting phase is complete. The reason we do this is to maximize the chances of passing the EMC test.

PCB Layout

As soon as the electronics have been fully designed, along with the extra filtering, we will begin the next phase, which is the layout of the PCB. During this phase, it may be necessary to increase the number of layers in order to achieve the desired result. In 90% of the PCB redesigns we have done so far, we have added at least two copper traces to the PCB, although it is not always the case.

As a necessary measure that runs parallel to the first phase of the redesign, we feel it is necessary to take this action.

Creation of Gerber files and BOM

At the end of the process, we create all the necessary data to be able to go to production. It is as a result of this process that we create the Gerber files, the bill of materials (BOM), the pick and place file, the assembly drawing, and a copy of the Altium project file.

EMC fix in the design

In order to implement the design changes, we begin with the electronic design. As a general rule, we tend not to change too much from the original design, instead, we tend to focus our modifications mostly on fixing EMC issues. Once this has been completed we will be able to move on to the next step which is PCB layout.

PCB Layout

Following the completion of the schematic design, the next step is to implement the design into the actual board itself, which is the next step. As a result, we have to design the PCB layout. There is a possibility that we will need to add a few additional layers to our code to increase our likelihood of passing EMC.
